A Glimpse into the Replica of Zindan-e-Shaam at Kesar Baug Hall

(L-R: Entrance of the Zindan; The back portion – showing the length of the structure)

In the heart of Mumbai, as a tribute to the tragic events of Karbala and Shaam, a replica of the Zindan-e-Shaam was built at Kesar Baug Hall. Special attention was given to details in recreating the entire atmosphere of the infamous Zindan in Shaam, where Bibi Sakina (sa) and the revered Ahlulbayt (as) were held captive by Yazid. As you can see in the glimpses, the setting, which is dark and confined, aimed to recreate the conditions similar to what the prisoners experienced during that difficult time. This symbolic tribute served as a powerful reminder of the hardships endured by the family of the Prophet (saw), igniting reflections on their unwavering courage and steadfastness in the face of adversity, as Bibi Zainab (sa), even after the tragedy of Karbala, in response to Yazid said, “I see nothing but beauty ….” *. The Zindan, built during the first week of Muharram, will be open for public visitation until Eid-e-Zahra (sa).

Annual Aashura Processions

In the capital city of New South Wales, Australia, the spirit of Muharram took on a unique form as Annual Processions. The Australian Khoja community, as depicted on http://ashura.com.au/#home, orchestrated a grand annual procession (Juloos) that united all the followers of Imam Husain (as) from various backgrounds. The procession symbolised a universal bond transcending all geographical boundaries as it gathered participants to remember the events of Karbala. The sacred march which was adorned with Banners, Alams (Flags), Nauha recitations and Azadari, captivated the hearts of onlookers and brought the timeless tale of sacrifice to the modern setting of Australia.

As the Khoja communities worldwide continue to uphold the legacy of Muharram to demonstrate the unwavering dedication to the message of Imam Husain (as), these unique initiatives ensure that the spirit of unity, remembrance, and devotion resonates among all the community members, irrespective of their age, especially during this significant period.

The Khojanews team continues to pray to Allah (swt) to accept our Amaals, Aza and Azadari for Imam Husain (as) and the increased taufeeqat of our communities worldwide, Ameen!

If your community has undertaken similar initiatives, please feel free to share the details with us at info@khojanews.org.
