As the blessed month of Ramadhan has come to an end, we want to wish each one of you and your families Eid Mubarak on behalf of SJ Cycling.

Eid is a time for reflection as we consider the world we live in and our part in it. Reflection on the month of Ramadhan, and the difference we made to ourselves, those around us, and the world we live in.

An ambitious challenge

On 5th Ramadhan 1441, SJ Cycling launched an ambitious challenge to cycle 5000 miles and feed 250 families for one month. This was an anxious time for all of us as it was a “big ask” to cycle 5000 miles from a community observing fasting during the holy month. Nonetheless, as always, our community members “rose” to the challenge and not just in Stanmore, but all over the United Kingdom and globally.

Some of the key highlights

  • 110 registered cyclists
  • 25 participants from our ladies’ team
  • 25 participants from our U16s
  • Cyclists from 8 cities and 6 countries around the globe
  • 16,995 miles cycled
  • £18,320 raised from 437 individual donations
  • Over 330 families will receive food for one month

During this month, each and every one of us has won. Together, we have cycled almost 17,000 miles.  But more importantly, together we have been able to raised funds to feed over 330 families for one month and we have used this blessed month to make our impact on humanity.

Sometimes, when you launch a project, you don’t always consider the peripheral benefits that may be achieved. With the medium of this cycling challenge, we have brought together our global cycling community including gents, ladies, youth and children. We have formed friendships that will last and stand the test of time. This is an achievement that we will carry on, Inshallah, for years to come.

What’s next?

Now that we have achieved success in our initiative, how do we move forward with it? Behind the scenes at SJ Cycling, we are planning a way forward for our global cycling community to remain interactive and competitive. We would request you to keep a watch for our activities as we plan to launch a series of challenges over the coming weeks and months.

With the grace of the Almighty, we will endeavor to hold our annual Ali Asghar Water Appeal ride on a much larger scale, inviting our community members from around the globe to join us in this humanitarian effort. What the AAWA ride will look like this year may be very different due to the current world circumstances; but we have no doubt that our global community will join us and support us in ensuring another successful challenge, Inshallah.

A vote of Thanks

We want to thank our partners, WF-Aid and Bullsmoor Dental, without whom this event would not have been possible. Like always, our partners play a key role in the ongoing success of our club, and the impact we are able to have on the community.

Lastly, we would like to offer our gratitude to each and every one of our participants, donors, and supporters; we truly are stronger when we are together. We look forward to building on the new bonds that we have developed and to keep contributing to our small impact on humanity, together.

“Winning is not a something; it’s an all the time thing. You don’t win once in a while; you don’t do things right once in a while; you do them right all of the time. Winning is a habit.”  Vince Lombardi

For now, keep cycling!
