Canadian province seeks high-skilled immigrants

The Canadian province of Saskatchewan is accepting fast-track applications from highly skilled professionals wishing to immigrate.

The programme is designed for individuals who have education and work experience in a high-skilled and in-demand occupation.

A full list of such occupations is not easily available online, however, and candidates will need to conduct their own research on the Canadian government’s websites. There is also an extensive list of job titles that are excluded from the programme.

Expression of Interest

Those wanting to apply for Express Entry or Occupations In-Demand need first to complete and Expression of Interest.

They will be evaluated on a points system based on education, work experience, language skills and age, and those who score highest will be invited to apply for the programme.

Those who do not score enough points cannot apply.

Extra points are awarded to those with a link to Saskatchewan through family, work or education.

Settlement funds and plan

Applicants will also need proof that they can bring enough money into Canada to fund their settlement, as well as a settlement plan.

The first step is to create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile:

Strong economic outcomes

The Saskatchewan immigration website explains: “Candidates with attributes aligned to the needs of Saskatchewan’s labour market and immigration objectives are selected from the International Skilled Worker EOI system. These attributes include connections to the province, work experience, and language proficiency. Those selected from the system are issued an Invitation to Apply.

“A goal of the EOI system is to ensure strong economic outcomes and long-term retention in Saskatchewan for those invited to apply.”
