The Ahlul-Bayt Collective has issued a notification inviting and calling out the community members to participate in the upcoming story writing contest “The Art of Ashura: Storytelling from the Heart”

About the Contest

The Ahlul-Bayt Collective in collaboration with Harvard University for Harvard’s Project on Shi’ism and Global Affairs has announced an invitation and an open call for “The Art of Ashura: Storytelling from the Heart” contest.

The Theme

The participants are expected to submit a fictional short story targeted to an audience of 12-18 years of age, that effectively conveys an aspect of the meanings, values, and emotions of Ashura based on the prompt – “The Brightest Light in the Darkest Night.” Zainab (sa), Imam Hussein (as)’s sister, declared that at Karbala on Ashura, “I saw nothing but beauty!” What did she see?”

The short story should be approximately 10 pages double-spaced in length, but shorter or longer stories are also eligible to participate.

Submission and Deadline

The submission deadline for a draft paper is Thursday, 17th September. The participants are requested to submit their stories here

Selected submissions will be workshopped for discussion, editing, and revisions and will be showcased at Harvard University’s Project on Shi’ism and Global Affairs at a colloquium on Shi’ism and the arts and literature in planning stages for the 2020-2021 academic year.
