An 11-year-old Khoja boy from Navi Mumbai has become the first cuber in Asia in the last five years to break the Asian Continental Record for the fastest unscrambling of the Pyraminx Cube.

Meet the Genius Record Breaker

Imaad Sohel Ajani, a resident of Nerul, Navi Mumbai, India, is an 11-year-old. He lives with his parents Sohel, and Mariyam, and his elder brother Zaid. He is in grade six.

How did Imaad start cubing?

Initially, Imaad was hooked on Cricket. His house was equipped with all the required gear, and he practised for hours perfecting the sport; however, 2 years ago, during the Covid-19 lockdowns, he picked up on cubing after being introduced to it by his brother Zaid. Since then, he has diverted all his attention to cubing and practices it with his brother, who shares the latest tricks and techniques with him from online videos.

Imaad’s Achievements

As his passion for cubing grew, his parents enrolled him on cubing competitions conducted by the World Cubing Association (WCA). In just 2 years of cubing, he has bagged 4 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals in local and national competitions.

Breaking the Asian Continental Record

Imaad’s record-breaking moment came at the Pune Unscrambled 2023 Competition held in Pune on October 21, 2023. He solved the Pyraminx cube in 1.02 seconds, in just 8 moves, which happened in the blink of an eye. With his record-breaking solve, Imaad broke the previous record held by Chinese cuber Yulun Wu at 1.10 seconds and secured a worldwide 9th rank.

On breaking the Asian Continental Record, Imaad mentioned, “I wanted to break the record, but when I actually did it, it was quite surreal for me, and I just couldn’t believe that I managed to beat the record time.”

Future Plans

The Future Plans for Imaad include breaking the world record of 0.75 seconds presently held by Elijah Brown of the United States. Imaad follows a strict routine of practising and perfecting his muscle memory. His brother, who is the reason he got involved in cubbing fully supports him and keeps providing him with newer algorithms to follow and train with. “The boys are very supportive and are doing whatever possible to do their best. Imaad wakes up at 6 am and, practices the moves and keeps himself updated. During his practice sessions, he has managed to unscramble the cube in a matter of 0.86 seconds,” His father, Sohel Ajani, concluded.

It is very refreshing to see the Youth of our community excel in academic and sports fields.

The Khojanews team congratulates Imaad Ajani and his family for his record-breaking accomplishment. We wish Imaad the very best for his future and pray to Allah (swt) to grant him success in all his endeavours, Ameen.
