The year 2020 has struck us with yet another sad loss, the sudden and unexpected demise of Marhum Amir Ali Ladhubhai Patel, a well-known philanthropist in the Khoja Community.
About Marhum Amir Ali Ladhubhai Patel
Marhum Amir Ali, son of Ghulamali, was a well-known individual in the educational sector of the Khoja community. He was very proactive in his work of providing education to Khoja students and in serving the larger community throughout his life. He set up the Qamar Bani Hashim School & College at Jaffer-e-Tayyar, Malir, Karachi, which serves as an example for everyone today.
Philanthropy work
He served the Khoja Jamaat as a Joint Secretary from 1979 to 1981, and was the Founder Trustee and Managing Trustee of Friends Educational & Medical Trust (FEMT) since 1965. He was also the Hon. General Secretary of the Society for Prevention & Cure of Blindness.
Along with heading the FEMT, Marhum Amir Ali was also the Founding Member & Hon. General Secretary of Al-Abbas Educational & Welfare Society, Trustee & Treasurer of Haydari Benevolent Trust, Founding Member & Hon. General Secretary of Bagh-e-Zehra Welfare Trust, and was involved in some of these Trusts since their inception in 1965, serving the needs of Shia community in the fields of Education, Medical, Housing, Small Businesses, Interest-Free Loans, Orphans and Widows. He was very dedicated in all the Trusts, and performed his duties until the end.
Business
Marhum was an exemplary businessman who was famous in the Tannery industry in Pakistan, as well as a generous philanthropist, whose work in this field is unrivalled. His life and way of living is a shining example for all of us to look up to and learn from. His demise at the age of 86 has saddened the community at large, and he is survived by his three sons – Abid Ali, Abbas Ali and Azhar Ali.
