About the Beacon Mosque
Beacon Mosque has been developed to recognize that the role Mosques and Islamic Centres play in the macro infrastructure of towns and cities is being felt and their impact on the social and cultural fabric of society is being measured.
The Beacon Mosque initiative offers Mosque leadership to rate their Mosque against a set criterion to achieve 3*, 4* or 5* rating. A 5* rated Beacon Mosque truly serves both its congregation and the wider community, through an efficient, inclusive and sustainable provision of services. The optimal utilization of a mosque is only achieved when leadership, management and members begin to understand the scope & purpose of the mosque; how it is not just simply a place for prayer, but a focal point for the entire community to serve, safeguard and support.
The Annual British Beacon Mosque Awards
The Beacon Mosque Awards, started in 2018, are the 1st of its kind Mosque Awards in the world, celebrating the work of Islamic institutions in 10 different categories. MKSI Leicester’s Participation in the 2020 Awards
The MKSI (Muslim Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri) Leicester was nominated for the category of “Best run Mosque” in this year’s British Beacon Mosque awards and has been selected as a finalist!
The selection process involved assessment by independent judges, who shortlisted the best applicants based on evidence along with the public votes in each category and then selected the finalists. The shortlist criteria included communities driving innovation in programs, offering outstanding facilities and promoting best practices.
Currently, the MKSI Leicester is leading the category with 60.82% votes, however, the Mosques with most votes will not be the automatic winner. The Judges’ assessment of the evidence of work of the Mosques is the main criteria, with voting numbers an added value. The voting for the shortlisted Mosques is open until 30th November and the winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on 5th December which will be held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
